This is a Grasshopper routine that runs in Rhino3d and generates a fretted instrument fingerboard.

The controllable parameters are:

  • Nut width
  • Distance to inset the low and high strings from the nut
  • String spacing at the saddle
  • Scale length for both bass and treble allowing the user to create multi-scale fan fret fretboards
  • Vertical fret for fan fret fingerboards
  • The fret number to match the saddle width at
    (usually 12 or 14)
  • Blind or through frets
  • Binding width
  • Length of fretboard beyond the last fret
  • Version 1.2 now supports the 3d creation of the fingerboard
  • It creates uniform, compound, and
    derived compound radii fingerboards

The above version is the latest version 1.3, which has updated bake functionality available in Rhino 8.

If you are running Rhino 7, I believe the old 1.2 version (below) will work – if anyone can confirm this please send me an email.
